Looking Results
The very first project to use Precasteel’s StayPanel™ forms was none other than the massive $8 billion Central Terminal Replacement Project at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
As one of the country’s busiest airports, serving an estimated 15 million passengers a year, LaGuardia had its choice of formwork and construction methods to build two structures connecting terminals, Frontage Road being one of the two and the show piece of the terminal.
It opted for Precasteel’s revolutionary StayPanel™ forms—and the decision paid off.
Much to LaGuardia’s benefit, the StayPanel™ design increased installation speed to just one linear foot per minute on average, significantly expediting construction. The design allowed for a ¼-inch gap between panels that facilitated construction and added to the bridges’ aesthetic appeal.
The result? A pair of far better-looking and more efficiently built bridges than could have been achieved with conventional bridge brackets.
In fact, Delta Airlines was so impressed with the bridges’ ease of construction and visual appeal that it incorporated StayPanel™ forms into the design of its neighboring terminal.

In addition to providing an aesthetically pleasing barrier at the main terminal building, the Precasteel panel design was able to be tailored to project specific design requirements to overcome detailing challenges and were expediently implemented by the Precasteel design team, ensuring adherence to the project schedule.
Project specific detailing challenges included changes in flange material type and width, as a mixture of both wide flange precast girders and steel girders were utilized, as well as profile variations in the top surface of the top flange at surface profile interruptions at numerous flange splice locations and plan variations as well as at light pole and sign structure barrier bump-outs.
The Precasteel team was always highly receptive to all requested project specific modifications and a pleasure to work with including providing a fast turn-around of shop drawings addressing project specific minor modifications to the standard design.
